NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW – This is a statement about the need of law in society equally applied. That is applied against the poor laborer as well as the wall street millionaires and the highest leaders of the land.
Why is the rule of law so important?
- no contract system—there can be no business, no free market, no trust in transactions if we have no protections that contracts will be equally enforced, so how do we make a living?
- no intellectual property—if no protection of intellectual property, who will be motivated to produce life altering beneficial items for humanity?
- no protection against human rights abuses—if life itself is not protected against evil doers, why live?
Why applied equally?
When laws are not equally applied, society collapses. We are living in such a collapse right now. As the people continue to see powerful Americans, politicians, celebrities, industry leaders, wealthy family members, etc walk away from serious punishments over criminal behaviors, more and more citizens will give up on the laws of the state, seek to impose their own punishments, and outright refuse to abide (starting with the most ridiculous and extending to the most necessary.) This is happening slowly but it will snowball and bring disastrous consequences to all, starting with the most vulnerable but reaching the most wealthy.
We need to stop this nonsense.
